The Australian School-based Apprenticeship (ASbA) program offers students aged 15 and over the opportunity to achieve a nationally recognised vocational qualification by combining paid work and training as part of their education program. This training fits within a student’s study program whilst at school and can count toward their ACT Senior Secondary Certificate.
About the Program
Training is provided by a Registered Training Organisation (RTO), which may be the school, CIT, or a private RTO. Students can begin their ASbA journey in high school, and both Accredited Package and Tertiary Package students can continue their ASbA in college.

The ASbA Guide for Schools is part of the ‘Choose your path’ series. This comprehensive guide supports ACT Public Schools, Transition and Careers Officers, and Career Practitioners and Coordinators in assisting school students to understand and navigate ASbAs in the ACT. The guide has been developed in consultation with High Schools and Colleges, ACT BSSS, and Skills Canberra.
