SAT – School-based Apprenticeship and Traineeship

School-based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SATs) in Queensland allow students to work towards a nationally recognised qualification while completing their Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE). This pathway provides valuable hands-on industry experience while at school.

About the Program

SATs enable students to:

  • Start working towards a trade qualification while still at school
  • Gain hands-on experience in the workplace
  • Earn while they learn
  • Fast-track their career pathway
  • Contribute to their QCE points

Program Structure

The program involves:

  • Paid employment with a business
  • Structured training with a registered training organisation
  • School studies
  • Students typically spend one day per week in the workplace or complete blocks of training

Eligibility

To be eligible for a SAT, you must:

  • Be in Year 10, 11 or 12
  • Be enrolled at a Queensland school
  • Have support from your school
  • Have parent/guardian consent
  • Find a suitable employer
  • Meet any specific industry requirements
