School Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SBATs) combine paid work, training, and HSC studies. This program typically takes place over two years during Years 11 and 12.
About the Program
SBATs provide students with:
- A nationally recognised Vocational Education and Training (VET) qualification
- Credit towards their HSC
- Paid work experience (minimum 100 days of work for apprenticeships; minimum 70 days for traineeships)
- Essential skills and experience in their chosen industry
How It Works
Students undertaking an SBAT must:
- Attend school for their HSC studies
- Work a minimum number of hours per week with their employer
- Complete formal training with a registered training organisation
- Balance their study, work, and training commitments
Eligibility
To be eligible for an SBAT, you must:
- Be enrolled in Year 10, 11 or 12 in NSW
- Be at least 14 years and 6 months of age
- Have school principal approval
- Have parent/guardian consent
- Find an employer willing to support your SBAT
- Be able to complete the minimum required paid work hours
